Boy-band quartet is on a major roll
Posted: 20 Aug 2009 | Melody
Two years ago the Jonas Brothers were opening for Miley Cyrus at Time Warner Cable Arena. Nine months later the trio was selling out arenas and amphitheaters on its own. Could Honor Society, the handpicked quartet opening for the Jonas Brothers on Friday, be next?
The cards are definitely stacked in the New Jersey pop-rock quartet's favor, with its single currently hitting radio, an opening slot on the Jonas Brothers' tour, endorsements from MTV and “Rolling Stone,” songs on the soundtracks for “Bandslam,” “Wizards of Waverly Place” and December's “Alvin & the Chipmunks II,” and a debut album out Sept. 15 on the Jonas' new label.
Forming two years ago, Honor Society built momentum touring regionally and through MySpace and YouTube. Last summer's “A Tale of Risky Business” EP caught the ears of drummer Alexander Noyes' former employers – the Jonas Brothers.
“That was the connection,” Noyes, who briefly backed the Jo Bros, said Tuesday from Tampa, Fla. “I was friends with Kevin, Nick and Joe. That EP made its way to the boys and from there we've had a great musical partnership.”
A Mexico City gig with team Jonas last November followed, and in June the band hopped on the current world tour as an opening act (along with Jordin Sparks). Both perform at Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday. Honor Society will then head to the Fillmore to headline its own Full Moon Crazy all ages after-party.
Although the band has spent months working on its forthcoming debut “Fashionably Late,” the guys didn't actually sign with the Jonas' as-yet-unnamed label until this summer. But with the album's release looming, the band is on the fast track. Last week the group was a presenter at the Teen Choice Awards, a gig it squeezed in before sprinting across town for its opening set.
“We were sitting in the audience. We saw Miley Cyrus' performance,” keyboardist Jason Rosen said. “We presented the award, got right off stage, got into a car, got to The Staples Center and literally ran out on to the stage.”
Honor Society may teeter between boy band pop and Jimmy Eat World, but its influences are classic rock and soul, according to Rosen.
“Michael Jackson's ‘Thriller.' That's a perfect album. We'd shoot for that,” he said, when asked what albums came to mind as the band recorded “Fashionably Late” with producer John Fields in Los Angeles. “Prince's ‘1999.' Stevie Wonder. We're kind of influenced by rock, too, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. (It's about) having an album from beginning to end that tells a story, where every song is key and there are no songs you want to skip.”
No matter what level of success the disc and the association with the JBs brings them, Rosen says they've created a finished product the group is proud of.
“We were meticulous about how we wanted it to sound,” he said. “It's the album we always wanted to make.”

Jonas Brothers and Hollywood Records Team Up to Release, Fashionably Late, Debut Album From Honor Society
Posted: 19 Aug 2009 | Monica
CO-PRODUCED AND CO-WRITTEN BY HONOR SOCIETY AND JOHN FIELDS, AND EXECUTIVE-PRODUCED BY JONAS BROTHERS, FASHIONABLY LATE AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 15
NEW YORK, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas and Nick Jonas of the Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling band, Jonas Brothers, today announced they would team up with Hollywood Records to release Fashionably Late, the debut album from one of this summer's hottest new band, Honor Society (www.myspace.com/honorsociety). Co-Written and Co-Produced by Honor Society and John Fields, and Executive Produced by Jonas Brothers, Fashionably Late is due for release on September 15, 2009. Honor Society is signed to a new "joint venture" record label to be owned by Jonas Brothers and Hollywood Records.
"Hollywood Records has been an incredible partner for us as a band," say the Jonas Brothers. "Working with exciting new talent and producing music for them is a natural evolution in our careers and we couldn't be more excited to have our friends from Honor Society be one of the first artists we will help launch."
Added Disney Music Group Chairman Bob Cavallo, "We are delighted to form this label with the Jonas Brothers. Kevin, Joe and Nick have a keen ability to find and nurture talent, even guiding them through the studio as songwriters and producers. Their talents are truly impressive."
Honor Society's infectious new summer song and their first official single, "Where Are You Now," was released on July 21. The single is taken from the soundtrack to the upcoming film, BANDSLAM (Summit Entertainment and Walden Media) starring Aly Michalka, Vanessa Hudgens, Gaelen Connell and Lisa Kudrow which premieres in theatres on August 14. Since the Spring, Honor Society has been named a breakout band to watch by Rolling Stone, identified as a Buzzworthy artist by MTV and earned an opening spot on one of the biggest tours of the summer as they join the Jonas Brothers and Jordin Sparks on the North American leg of the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009. Their explosive growth is due in large part to the band's intensely loyal fan base they built from the ground up on MySpace and YouTube. Honor Society's potent pop rock sound, skilled musicianship, energetic live shows and sense of style has led to over 3 million plays of their music on their MySpace artist profile page. In addition to recently selling out famed live music venues such as New York's Fillmore Theater at Irving Plaza and the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, the band is currently headlining their own club tour called The Full Moon Crazy Tour.
