Traveling the USA blog entry by andrew lee

Posted: 13 Oct 2009 | Monica

The best part (or at least MY favorite part) of tour is the long bus trips across the US. We get to see parts of the country we've never seen before...incredible scenery and landscapes and people. The long trips also give us time to catch up on our lives - keeping in touch with family, fans, friends, etc...which is why I'm writing this blog.

At this very moment, I'm sitting in the front lounge of the bus with Mike, Jay and Alex, listening to the best of Huey Lewis and the News...jamming out. We're all on our computers, which is typical. Tour is awesome...especially when you're with your best friends. Sounds cheesy, but it's true. It's a blast.

We just found out that our version of "White Christmas" was leaked on YouTube and OceanUp...so I tweeted, "How does our music keep leaking?" haha...it baffles me, but I guess it's a good thing. We recorded that song a couple months ago when we were in LA. It was fun...Mike ripped the vocals and guitar stuff. I hope we get to play it live...that'll be fun.

Driving across New Mexico right now. It's beautiful. It's flat for miles, then crazy jagged mountains pop up in the distance. It's a very different landscape from home....I love it. We all keep taking pictures and videos. Mike is TwitPic-ing as I type this.

FYI...Huey Lewis is FUNKY!

I think I'm over-caffeinated right now...my hands are sweating and I feel light-headed. Thanks Starbucks hahaha

Alright. That's enough for now. I think we're gonna get on SayNow and send out some messags, maybe go live, do some more Myspacing and Tweeting. Maybe we'll do some more Tour Rulez. Those are fun. Stay tuned...

Big shows coming up in Phoenix, San Diego and LOS ANGELES (that's gonna be a biggie) - hope to see y'all on tour!

Love,
andrew (and the gents)

Q&A with Michael Bruno of Honor Society, here Oct. 14

Posted: 10 Oct 2009 | Melody

When last we saw Honor Society, they were playing to thousands of Jonas Brothers fans in the round at the Jobing.com Arena. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, they return to the Valley for a more intimate club show at Martini Ranch.

We caught up with lead singer Michael Bruno, who shared his thoughts on Jordin Sparks, the Jonas Brothers, Hall & Oates and their current tour in support of "Fashionably Late," which hit the Billboard album chart on time at No. 18 in September.

Question: How was touring with the Jonas Brothers?

Answer: It was incredible. We joke around in the van about needing to find new adjectives to talk about it. We had a modest fan base around New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, but to play to 20,000 people or more every night was 100 percent a dream come true. Phoenix, in particular, we played there on my birthday, Aug. 11, so it had some extra special meaning for me as well. And Jordin Sparks was on the tour, and that's her hometown.

Q: You hung out with Jordin a lot, right?

A: We did. I mean, we hung out with Nick, Joe and Kevin as much, for sure. But we really did sort of bond with Jordin and her band. Oftentimes, we would actually share a dressing room with her band, so we all got to know each other really well. She's incredible. Jordin is such a sweet girl, and she's so talented.

Q: So you guys did a bunch of club appearances after the Jonas Brothers concerts. What was that like?

A: It was great. We did 21 aftershows, which was basically our own headlining tour, the Full Moon Crazy tour, but it was kind of the official afterparty to the Jonas Brothers tour. The way it was routed, the clubs were really close to the arena. So if anyone wanted to keep the night going, they could come see a full set from Honor Society. And it ended up being exactly what we hoped it would be - the place to be after the show. There were a good amount of times where the Jonas Brothers would show up, and sometimes they'd join us onstage. Jordin joined us onstage.

Q: The Jonas Brothers signed you to their label and executive produced the album. How did you first come to their attention?

A: Alex (Noyes), our drummer, went to high school with Kevin back in New Jersey. So when we made demos, about a year and a half ago. All of us just gave them to everybody we knew, and Alex handed off a demo to the Jonas Brothers. That was the start of them really liking the music. It was cool, though, because they reached out to us sort of slowly to see if we would all gel as people and friends first.

Q: You seem to be drawing on more of a contemporary R&B vibe than the Jonas Brothers or some of the other acts you'd encounter on Radio Disney. Do you see yourselves as fitting in with those artists or do you think you'll ultimately fall into a different scene as people become more familiar with your music?

A: There're some people who, on the surface, may think we're just like the Jonas Brother or some of the other artists on Radio Disney. And one is not better or worse than the other, but we are different. We definitely are on a more urban tip. And I think it can fit in with certain Radio Disney stuff, but I think it's definitely gonna fit in with Top 40 stations that play Lady Gaga or Black Eyed Peas as well. That's what's so awesome about the Jonas Brothers. They wanted us to be Honor Society.

Q: When Rolling Stone singled you out as one of the six bands to watch at Bamboozle, they described you as "the boy band sound of 'N Sync mixed with the R&B funk of Maroon 5." Do you feel like that's a fair assessment?

A: Umm . . . I do. I think it's fair because obviously we're not singing and dancing the way 'N Sync did, but the band originally started with just myself and Jason (Rosen),our keyboard player, and we both love vocal harmonies so much. We both love older acts like Hall & Oates and the Bee Gees and stuff before our time, even the Beatles. So I think subconsciously, when people make that kind of comparison, it really comes from the vocal harmony standpoint that you don't necessarily hear a lot in rock bands.

Q: That's interesting that you said Hall & Oates because when I first put the record on, the two things it reminded me of were Maroon 5 and Hall & Oates.

A: Oh, wow. That's very flattering. Thank you. We're big Hall & Oates fans. It's funny because the first person that produced some demos for myself and Jason said, "You guys are like the new Hall & Oates." And we almost took that as an insult at first, because we weren't as familiar with their music, and then as we looked back into their catalog, they had so many hits and it's just total blue-eyed soul and then, Oates, with his ripping guitar. And Prince is like the same thing - that sort of pop music that's very danceable but there's also a guitar element at the same time.

Q: Were any of you actually in the Honor Society.

A: We were. We all went to good colleges. I actually had a lot of fun in school. We all joke that one day, even after, hopefully, the band is big and all that, we'll go back to school or take Phoenix online courses and get masters.

Honor Society in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!?!

Posted: 07 Oct 2009 | Melody

I was listening to Y100 (Z100 in New York) this morning and Elvis Duran mentioned that the Y100 (Z100) Morning Zoo was supposed to be on a float with HONOR SOCIETY for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year; however, HONOR SOCIETY will now be on the float with the cast of Glee.

Note: This is not official yet. It was just something I overheard on the radio this morning.
